Researchers demonstrate new fast-charging technology for electric vehicles
On August 1, 2022, Jonathan Kimball became the chair of the department of electrical and computer engineering at Missouri S&T. Read the press release here.
Subsequently, in October 2022, he was named the Fred W. Finley Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering. More information here.
Kimball’s previous interim appointment as Director of the Center for Research in Energy and the Environment was made permanent, effective September 2021.
At the same ceremony where Kimball received a Faculty Research Award, several faculty members were honored for their Outstanding Teaching Awards. This award is based on student evaluations of teaching effectiveness. For 2017-18, 34 individuals were honored (not all pictured).
Kimball is a member of a team led by Bruce McMillin that has received a National Science Foundation award, CNS-1837472, to study cyber-physical system security. Other team members include Rui Bo, Jennifer Leopold, and (from Purdue) Aditya Mathur. Check out this press release:
Nearly $1 million NSF grant to bolster cyber-physical systems security
Kimball is leading a team that is researching a new approach to achieve electric vehicle charging, from empty to full, in less than ten minutes. The work is funded by the Department of Energy, award DE-EE0008449. The concept is similar to a gas station, but for electric vehicles. Other team members include:

Kimball was one of eight faculty to receive a Faculty Research Award from Missouri S&T in 2018.
The Faculty Research Award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship.  Awards are given based on the significance of the contributions of the individual in the preceding two years, as well as the long term impact of the individual’s research.
