In January 2026, Kimball was elevated to IEEE Fellow for contributions to the modeling and analysis of dual active bridge converters and switched capacitor converters. Each year, a maximum of 0.1% of the membership of IEEE can be elevated to Fellow. This year, 350 Fellows were elevated. Kimball’s home society, the Power Electronics Society, elevated 7 nominees out of 23 nominations. This is a major achievement that reflects his long-term impact on the field.

It was announced that Jonathan Kimball will serve as the interim director of the Center for Research in Energy and the Environment. This is a one-year appointment that will hopefully culminate in a permanent appointment.
